Editorial Services

Every writer is different, and every book is different, too. All rates are sliding scale, and your manuscript will be individually evaluated before a price is set; this means you'll get the best price for your individual needs.

If you're ready for a consultation, you can contact me via my form. Need more information or require a service not listed? I can be reached at sarah@inlovewithstory.com.

Developmental
Editing

Also known as a structural edit, a developmental edit is for the foundational aspects of your story: plot, pacing, character development, and theme. If you've completed your first draft (or second, or third!) and want to make sure that your story packs a punch, this is the edit for you.

I will look at your manuscript and give you a detailed report on the following:

  • Plot Structure

  • Pacing

  • Characterization

  • Point of View/Tense

  • Show and Tell

  • Genre Conventions

  • Theme

  • World Building

$0.015 – 0.022 per word.

All projects under 10,000 words are done at a minimum of $220.

Line
Editing

A line edit takes a close look at each scene, paragraph, and sentence, and makes sure that each element serves the story well. If you want your story to resonate deeply with readers and refine your voice and style, this is the edit you need.

I will take a look at your manuscript and provide inline edits and comments on the following:

  • Sentence and Paragraph Structure:

  • Word Choice

  • Character Dialogue

  • Repetition

  • Tone

  • Personal Voice

  • Point of View

$0.015 – 0.022 per word.

All projects under 10,000 words are done at a minimum of $220.

Copy
Editing

A copyedit is all about mechanics and editorial style. Readers expect a clear and consistent story; stumbling over poor phrasing, incorrect spelling, or language errors may leave them wondering if they should keep turning the page.

I will read through your manuscript and provide edits via track changes and comments. You will also receive a style sheet with all major decisions made on the following:

  • Grammar

  • Spelling

  • Punctuation

  • Continuity

  • Language

  • Style

$0.010 – 0.020 per word.

All projects under 10,000 words are done at a minimum of $200.

Proof
Reading

A proofread is an editorial last line of defense and the edit you need before you send your manuscript to publication. While is doesn't take the place of a copyedit, a solid proofread will fix glaring errors that lower the perceived quality of your work.

While a proofread is typically done after the manuscript has been formatted for publication, I do offer indie authors the option for a proofread before formatting, and will check the following:

  • Grammar

  • Spelling

  • Punctuation

  • Formatting issues

$0.008 – 0.010 per word.

All projects under 10,000 words are done at a minimum of $100.

FAQs

  1. What is the purpose of sliding scale pricing?

Sliding scale pricing allows me to take into consideration the needs of your manuscript and your publication goals. If your manuscript needs a light edit, why should you be charged the same fee a heavy edit would command?

  2. Can multiple services be combined?

Absolutely! Some services that work great together include developmental editing, line editing, and copy editing.

  3. Do you require an initial deposit?

A $100 non-refundable deposit is required if you are reserving my services in advance. This deposit will be applied to your total fee once I start editing your manuscript.

  4. What is the process for requesting a service?

Requesting an edit is easy! You can use my contact form to do so. Once I receive your request, I will get in contact with you to discuss your needs and ask for a copy of your manuscript to evaluate.
